Gabrielle Clossman

Welcome to Third Grade at Okatie Elementary.
My name is...

Mrs. Gabrielle Clossman

Mrs. Clossman

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Clossman. I am excited to have the privilege of being your third grade math, science, and social studies teacher! The 2017-2018 school year will be my first at Okatie Elementary, but my eighth year teaching overall. The previous seven years have been spent at Beaufort Elementary School. The first two were in fourth grade (ELA and
Social Studies). The last five years have been in third grade self-contained. I absolutely
love the challenge of third grade, creating a family of learners, and building a foundation upon which students can build their lifelong learning on.

I am a native Beaufortonian. I was born at Beaufort Memorial Hospital; went to
Mossy Oaks and Port Royal Elementary Schools; went onto the Humanities School of
Beaufort (first at Burroughs Avenue, then, in eighth grade, got to open a wing of Beaufort
Middle School); then I graduated number five in my class at Beaufort High School. I went on
to study elementary education at Winthrop University. I graduated summa cumme laude
with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 2014, I obtained a master’s degree from Lesley
University in Arts Integration.

While at Winthrop, I was blessed to meet my husband, Seth. We actually met in a
ballroom dancing class! We now live in Bluffton with our two beautiful children. Our daughter, Charlotte Rebecca, will be 4 on May 29th. She is currently taking gymnastics and playing in her first ever season of soccer.  Our son, James Daniel, is two years old! He is our constant entertainment and loves all things that go!

I am the proud daughter of MaryLou and Donald Gruel, both Beaufort County School
District educators. My mother retired in 2013 after 28 years of teaching, and my father
retired this past June after 29 years of service as a teacher and administrator.  With their support and guidance, I hope to continual build a classroom community my students and I loving call the  Klondike Den.

Each year I begin by introducing our class mascot, the Polar Bear (Klondike), and describe to them how I will be their Mama Bear and they, in turn, my cubs. Throughout the year I refer to my homeroom as Klondikes, and discuss that as a family of learners we work to build each other up, support each other’s dreams, and learn together.

Happy School Year!
