ST1.4: Students use technology resources to conduct research, demonstrative creative and critical thinking, and communicate and work collaboratively.

Beaufort County School District’s Connect 2 Learn initiative provides a 1:1 mobile device for all students in grades K-12.  Students in grades 3-5 can participate in the Connect 2 Learn take home program.   During non-school hours, our students still have the ability to interact with and utilize technology. Students in grades K-5 utilize technology during our after school program and engage in programs such as Compass Learning.  In addition, the many of our students have access to the internet in their homes.  Our teachers interact with students away from school through Google Classroom, Edmodo, email, etc. OES also actively engages students, parents and our community though our social media outlets.    Specific examples of students using technology in our school include, but are not limited to second grade Animal Research projects, Keynotes, fourth grade Solar System projects, coding, World Maths Day, after school TEK Club, and digital Science Fair inquiry and research.

8 At the conclusion of their animal unit, second grade students chose an animal to research and learn more about. Using their iPads, students researched the animal’s height, weight, habitat, predators, and life span. They then created a PowerPoint slide to present their findings to their peers.
3 TEK Club (or CS First) is an after-school technology club with the purpose of teaching students how to effectively utilize technology resources. Student are taught safe ways to research on the internet, as well as programs to use to present their findings.
cl After reading an article about September 11, 2001. Students in 5th grade created a Popplet highlighting important information they learned from their reading.


The STEM-centered Science Lab allows students the opportunity to extend their knowledge of the Engineering Design process through hands-on, inquiry-based, cooperative learning.
